A two-day workshop focusing on bamboo agroforestry, resource management, and utilization was held by the Meghalaya State Bamboo Mission, Meghalaya Basin Management Agency, in partnership with community-based Forest Management and Livelihood Improvement in Meghalaya, and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority. Uravu Eco Links (UEL) participated in the event, sharing practical insights from their Kerala-based activities. UEL’s Managing Director Sivaraj T. moderated the session on sustainable bamboo harvest and resource management, and delivered a speech on community-based bamboo development lessons from Kerala since the 1990s, tailored for Meghalaya.
The workshop, held on 9 and 10 December 2025 in Shillong, aimed to unite stakeholders to share best practices in bamboo agroforestry systems, sustainable bamboo harvest, clump management, and resource utilisation. It sought to identify opportunities for convergence across departments and missions. The event showcased community-based bamboo industry models for livelihood generation and circular economy development. Additionally, it aimed to create a state-level action plan for bolstering bamboo-based value chains and sustainable management practices, and to integrate bamboo into climate resilience and disaster risk reduction strategies.
